Hundreds of residents from villages and towns in Suwayda province gathered today, Wednesday, for the fourth consecutive day at Al-Seer (al-Karama) Square in the center of Suwayda city, participating in demonstrations that call for the removal of the Assad regime.
Protesters held banners, some of which read: “Freedom is the essence of life; free revolutionaries, let’s remove Bashar. Religion belongs to Allah, and the homeland is for all. No to sectarianism, no to the military state, no to tyranny and corruption. Yes to the rule of law. Suwayda is not for sale. We demand the implementation of UN Resolution 2254; Syria is free, Iran must leave!”
Delegations from Al-Mazraa, as well as youth from Al-Thala and Salim towns, and representatives from Ariqa, Al-Kharsa, and Reema Hazem villages arrived at Al-Sir Square. Meanwhile, individuals from Janinha village gathered at the central square in Shahba town, where anti-regime demonstrations are still ongoing. Preparations were in progress for the majority of these delegations to head towards Al-Sir Square in central Suwayda.
Simultaneously, an anti-regime demonstration took place in the town of Saida, east of Daraa, demanding the regime’s overthrow. Demonstrators held up banners that read: “Assad must go, we want to live. The detainees in Assad’s prisons are not mere numbers; they are innocent and oppressed.”
In a statement issued on Monday, the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) wholeheartedly supported the resurging anti-regime protests across Syria. The SOC expressed solidarity with the people in Jaramana, Damascus, southern Syria in Daraa and Suwayda, and the protests along the Syrian coast against the Assad regime. The SOC underscored that the Assad regime is the primary cause of Syria’s crises and is primarily responsible for the severe decline in living conditions.
The SOC emphasized the importance of liberated areas standing in solidarity with the uprising in the south through mass demonstrations, reinforcing the shared objective of toppling the Assad regime. It reiterated that Syria requires the collective efforts of its people to realize the Syrian aspiration for freedom, justice, and dignity, wherein the Assad regime has no place.
