The Assad regime continues to set up ambushes and raid homes in eastern Ghouta with the aim of detaining young men under the pretext of dodging military service. Local activists reported the arrest of 10 young men in the towns of Jisrin and Kafar Batna in the Damascus suburbs on Sunday.
The Voice of the Capital news website said that members of the Military Security and the Military Police set up many checkpoints in the main streets and intersections in Jisrin and Kafar Batna with the aim of detaining young men accused of dodging compulsory military service.
On October 30, the Assad regime’s Military Security Branch detained 11 young men in the town of Ayn Tarma in a similar campaign focused on those who did not perform military service.
On October 19, joint patrols of the Military Security and the Fourth Division carried out a similar raids that targeted dozens of houses, shops and farms in the town of Al-Saboura in rural Damascus, detaining more than 30 young men.
