The Assad regime’s forces launched a rocket attack on residential areas in the town of Sarmin, in eastern rural Idlib, as residents took to the streets following an earthquake that struck Syria late on Tuesday.
Abdulbasit Abdullatif, Secretary of the Political Committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), condemned these heinous acts targeting civilians during a natural disaster, describing them as beyond comprehension. He stated, “We are confronting a merciless criminal who seizes any opportunity to kill more innocent people who refuse to remain under his rule.”
Abdullatif pointed out that the international community is well aware of the Assad regime’s egregious actions, and there is little more to add about its crimes. He criticized the attempts to overlook these atrocities and normalize relations with the regime.
He emphasized that the Syrian people remain committed to their revolution, rejecting all forms of normalization with the Assad regime. They are determined to overthrow the regime and secure their freedom and dignity in accordance with UN resolutions, including the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UNSC Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
