The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) office in the town of Azaz in the Aleppo countryside hosted an event focusing on detainees in Assad regime prisons and the brutal methods they endure until death.
This event is part of the Detainees’ Week campaign initiated by local bodies and humanitarian organizations to highlight the plight of detainees. It called for the release of those held captive and the revelation of the fate of those forcibly disappeared.
The event was attended by Najib Rahmoun, the Coordinator of the SOC’s Office in the liberated areas, along with several former detainees and survivors of Assad’s prisons.
Activities included organizing a solidarity sit-in in front of the SOC’s office, recognizing former detainees and survivors, and presenting a photo exhibition depicting victims of torture and the brutal methods employed in Assad’s prisons.
Rahmoun emphasized that the detainee issue is fundamental to the Syrian revolution and is a non-negotiable matter that should not be used as a bargaining chip.
Female survivors of Assad’s prisons participating in the event stressed the imperative for human rights and international organizations to channel all their efforts toward releasing detainees and uncovering the fate of those forcibly disappeared.
These survivors highlighted the extremely bitter and challenging experiences of women detained in Assad’s prisons due to the lasting psychological and social impact. They called for justice for the victims and holding criminals accountable for their crimes in Syria.
