Ahmad Baccora, a member of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), emphasized the SOC’s firm stance against any form of normalization with the Assad regime. He argued that such actions would only strengthen the regime’s power and exacerbate the suffering of the Syrian people, who are already enduring repression and violence.
In a statement to the local newspaper Enab Baladi, Baccora highlighted that normalizing relations with the Assad regime would come at the expense of the rights and aspirations of the Syrian people and would deepen the crises rather than resolve them.
He stressed the importance of preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity and called for a just and sustainable political solution to bring peace and stability to the entire region in accordance with UN Resolution 2254.
Baccora emphasized that the interests and rights of Syrians must remain a top priority for allied countries, including Türkiye. He highlighted the necessity of maintaining international support for the Syrian cause and ensuring that Syrians’ rights are not marginalized in any future agreements.
He stated that the Syrian revolution and opposition forces are crucial partners in combating terrorist organizations, but this must occur within a political process aimed at fulfilling the Syrian people’s aspirations.
Baccora asserted that efforts to combat terrorism must be part of a comprehensive strategy to achieve lasting peace and stability in Syria. He expressed hope that the demands of the Syrian people must remain a priority in Turkish policy, especially regarding achieving peace and stability and ensuring the voluntary return of refugees to their homes in safety and dignity.
