Hadi Al Bahra, president of the Syrian Coalition, said that along with the air strikes against ISIS and arming the Free Syrian Army, a moderate Syrian government is needed to ensure the eradication of the root causes of terrorism once and for all,” during a press conference held yesterday at the UN headquarters in New York. He calls for protecting civilians from the “barbaric aerial bombardment carried out by the Assad regime and for supplying the FSA with advanced weapons and anti-aircraft missiles to protect the unarmed civilians. The phenomenon of extremism didn’t originate in Syria, but was superimposed on the Syrian situation by ISIS which has grown and festered as a result of the brutality of the Assad regime. The FSA has been fighting terrorism on two fronts, against the Assad regime and ISIS though it has only received meager support from the international community.” Moreover Bahra stresses that the FSA is the only moderate group in Syria that the international community should partner with to defeat terrorism, citing the FSA’s victories against ISIS in the area of Maarat al-Nouman and many towns and villages in Aleppo and in East Ghouta.
