Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, has emphasized the deserving role of Syria’s youth in the revolution’s institutions. He underscored the significance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by the youth and their potential in realizing the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity, and democracy. Barakat made these remarks during an extensive youth gathering organized by the Syrian Turkmen Council in Gaziantep on Sunday.
The event, titled “Youth are the makers and light of the future,” convened with the presence of Abdurrahman Mustafa, the Head of the Syrian Interim Government, along with various SOC members. Over 200 young individuals representing Turkoman communities from Syria and Türkiye participated in the meeting, which aimed to discuss the goals and activities of the Syrian Turkmen Council.
The discussions encompassed the achievements and aspirations of the Syrian Turkmen community across various domains, shedding light on youth-related issues and concerns. Emphasis was placed on the imperative of providing opportunities for youth to actively engage in the Syrian revolution and contribute to shaping the country’s future.
Barakat stressed the necessity of assigning suitable roles for youth within all revolutionary institutions, investing in their potential, and leveraging their pioneering role in the Syrian revolution. He highlighted the importance of tapping into youth ideas, broadening collaboration, and offering training and employment opportunities to propel the progress of liberated northern Syria.
Barakat also addressed the role of the Turkmen community in the Syrian revolution, noting their significant presence in various bodies associated with the revolution and the distinctive national spirit of Syrian Turkmen.
Mustafa discussed the Syrian Interim Government’s functions, emphasizing its role in managing liberated areas, providing essential services, and establishing national institutions as alternatives to those of the authoritarian Assad regime. Council President Faisal Ozturk provided insights into the establishment, goals, and ongoing activities of the Syrian Turkmen Council, underscoring its commitment to fulfilling the Syrian people’s demands for freedom, dignity, and the overthrow of the Assad regime.
