In remarks marking the first anniversary of the enforcement of the Caesar Act sanctions on the Assad regime, the Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Caesar Act Follow-up Group, Abdul Majeed Barakat, stressed that this day should always remind us of the necessity of intensifying the efforts related to the Caesar Act sanctions and of tightening these sanctions on the Assad regime and its clique.
Barakat said that the SOC is closely following the political, media and informational developments in order to ensure full implementation of the Caesar Act and achieving its goals, especially with regard to attempts by the Assad regime and its backers to circumvent these sanctions.
Barakat pointed out that the SOC is diligently working to ensure that these sanctions target the economic structure of the regime and its security services so that they prove effective and have a greater impact on the regime’s economy and its military machine.
Barakat stressed that the Syrian people should know that the Caesar Act sanctions do not target the Syrian people, but rather who destroyed the country’s economy and depleted the resources of the Syrian state for its bloody military approach and the interests of its backers.
The SOC has been holding a series of meetings with the Caesar Act Implementation Team in the US administration and other official bodies in order to increase cooperation, strengthen partnership, and ensure the enforcement of the Act the best way that achieves its goals.
