Abdul Majeed Barakat, the Secretary of the Political Committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), has praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its firm stances in Syria, recognizing the country’s vital role in both Arab and international forums to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people.
In an interview with the Arabi 21 news website, Barakat acknowledged the Kingdom’s consistent stance, including its backing of the political process and its support for the Syrian people throughout every stage of the revolution.
Barakat emphasized the importance of Saudi Arabia’s role in realizing the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people, while noting that the recent Saudi-Iranian rapprochement is an internal matter for the Kingdom. However, he expressed confidence that Riyadh would not ignore Iran’s negative and destabilizing influence in Syria and the wider region.
Highlighting the danger posed by Iranian militias deployed in multiple Arab countries, Barakat stressed that Iran targets Arab populations, particularly in Syria, as part of its attempts to control the Syrian state. Therefore, he called on all Arab states to confront and deal with this growing Iranian influence.
