Abdul Majeed Barakat, a member of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), emphasized the significance of initiatives related to Syria that align with the international framework for a solution.
Speaking exclusively to Syria TV, Barakat stated that the recent surge of initiatives and meetings regarding Syria reflects conflicting international perspectives on the Syrian issue. Despite the considerable efforts exerted by these countries, a comprehensive and effective vision has yet to be developed.
Barakat highlighted that the SOC, through its engagements with key stakeholders in Syria, is actively pursuing a genuine solution in line with UN resolutions, particularly emphasizing the need for political transition. Merely relying on statements, Barakat stressed, does not lead to tangible progress in Syria.
He underlined that addressing the Syrian crisis should not be limited to a humanitarian framework, urging the European role in Syria to extend beyond humanitarian aspects. There are other critical issues that deserve equal attention, such as the release of detainees, he added.
While Barakat appreciated all attempts and endeavors concerning Syria that align with the implementation of UN resolutions, he emphasized that tangible political actions are necessary, rather than mere statements. He reiterated that the approach to resolving the Syrian crisis should be primarily political, and political initiatives must progress alongside other efforts.
