Secretary of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Political Committee, Abdul Majeed Barakat, said that the Russian brutality poses a serious threat to international peace and security after it brought the world to the brink of a third world war and raised the possibility of nuclear confrontation to unprecedented levels.
Barakat strongly condemned the Russian bombardment of civilian facilities and residential areas in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, noting that the scenes of destruction and plumes of smoke are reminiscent of the brutal Russian bombing of civilian targets in Syria.
Barakat stressed that Moscow uses a scorched-earth policy in Syria whenever it suffers setbacks in the battlefield, adding that the recent Russian bombing indicates its powerlessness and desire to take revenge on civilians.
Barakat pointed out that the Russian army’s doctrine is based on the bombing and terrorization of civilians, citing the bombing of public markets, residential buildings, medical centers, schools and mosques in Syria.
