Secretary of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee, Abdul Majeed Barakat, welcomed the new batch of US sanctions against supporters of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia. He stressed the need to prevent these militias, the Assad regime and Iran from obtaining funds to feed their terrorist projects in the region.
Barakat pointed out that the Assad regime, Hezbollah militias and Iran are constantly trying to circumvent the sanctions by dealing with new individuals and companies. He added that the SOC’s Caesar Act Follow-up Committee is working with the US administration to track those entities and expose them.
Barakat indicated that imposing more sanctions on the terrorist militia of Hezbollah, the Assad regime and Iran is one of the most important pressure cards to stop the crimes of these terrorists as well as restore security and stability to the region.
Barakat stressed that the new sanctions refuted the latest rumors being circulated by the Assad regime and Hezbollah militia about the US administration’s intention to soften the sanctions.
