The Syrian Civil Defense said that 165 civilians were killed and 448 wounded in attacks by the Assad regime, Russia and the Iranian-backed militias in northwestern Syria in 2022.
The rescue group indicated that among the victims are 55 children and 14 women, while the wounded included 134 children and 64 women.
The Civil Defense also indicated that it recorded no fewer than 800 attacks by the Assad regime, Russia and their allied militias in northwestern Syria in the past year.
The group said it documented 550 artillery attacks, 63 Russian air strikes, 51 missile attacks, 28 guided missiles attacks, three attacks involving the use of surface to surface missiles, three drone attacks, and three cluster weapons attacks.
Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Ayman Al-Asmi, stressed that these figures clearly demonstrate the insistence of the Assad regime and its backers on pursuing a bloody military solution, rejection of all peaceful solutions, and obstructing the political process despite the worsening suffering of the Syrian people.
Al-Asmi pointed out that the Assad regime and its enablers do not care about the human tragedy that the Syrian people are going through, especially the civilians who live in the regime’s areas. He also said that the Assad regime is implementing the slogan “Assad or we burn the country” which it has adopted since day one.
