Members of the civil society list participating in the work of the drafting body of the Constitutional Committee met with the UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen. They stressed the importance of stopping the Assad regime’s escalating military campaign on Idlib.
They stressed that the intensifying bombing campaign will negatively affect the work of the Constitutional Commission, calling for action through the United Nations and for the Security Council to pressure all international parties to stop this campaign.
They called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to condemn the escalating bombing campaign as they demanded protection for civilians and a ceasefire that will reflect positively on the constitutional and political processes.
They also called on the UN envoy to issue an official statement demanding that the Assad regime stop military operations in Idlib; calling for protecting the lives of civilians, and states that these military operations contravene the confidence-building measures that must be made in parallel with the start of the work of the Constitutional Committee.
