Continuing their relentless onslaught, the forces of the Assad regime and Russia have maintained a barrage of attacks on civilian areas surrounding the city of Idlib. The attacks claimed civilian lives and the injury of many others, as reported by both the Syrian Civil Defense and activists on the ground.
According to the Syrian Civil Defense and local activists, Russian airstrikes on Saturday claimed the lives of three civilians—a father, mother, and their son. Additionally, six individuals, including a woman, sustained injuries. The strikes targeted the road connecting the city of Idlib and the village of Ayn Sheeb in the northwestern region of Syria. Even the rescue teams of the Civil Defense were not spared, as they were subjected to a secondary airstrike while attending to the injured.
The Civil Defense said that they managed to extract a woman who was trapped beneath the rubble, recover the bodies of those who had perished, and provide medical assistance to the wounded.
In separate incidents, reports from local activists revealed that the Assad regime forces launched attacks on the towns of Al-Bara and Kansafra to the south of Idlib. Moreover, a civilian vehicle in the village of Kamaya, west of Idlib, was targeted by a missile, resulting in the injury of a child.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) has denounced the atrocities committed by Russia and the regime forces, classifying them as flagrant war crimes. The SOC has issued a call for international and collective action, emphasizing the necessity of seeking justice for the victims and holding the perpetrators accountable in Syria. This plea is informed by an extensive record spanning over 12 years, during which the Assad regime, Russia, and Iranian militias have wrought havoc upon the Syrian people.
The SOC asserted that the ongoing international inaction in terms of accountability and the realization of a political transition in Syria, in accordance with UN Resolution 2254, is unacceptable. It warned that the Assad regime interprets this inaction as a tacit endorsement for it and its allies to continue committing further massacres and atrocities.
