Badraldin Jamous, the National Coalition’s Secretary General, condemned Greece’s violations and maltreatment of Syrian refugees who were forced to seek refuge in Greece in an effort to escape from the horror of massacres being committed against the people in Syria by the Assad Regime. The Secretary General criticized Greek authorities and the Border Patrol for the expulsion of boats loaded with refugees from the Greek beaches even though the boats contained women and children and were doomed to sink. Jamous added that “the Syrian Coalition strongly condemns the ill-treatment received by Syrian refugees in Greece, where survivors are received with beatings and humiliation and then punished with arrest.” Furthermore, the Secretary General called on the Greek government to respect human rights and to take the humanitarian crisis for Syrian refugees into consideration, especially women and children. Similarly, “Pro Aseel,” a non-governmental organization, said in a report that “expulsion of refugees from sea or land borders is systematically done in Greece.” The organization added that the “brutality and size of the violations contained in the report are shocking.” The report added that “deportations are done from the coastal waters as well as from the Greek islands and the land border, and that the majority of the deported refugees come from Syria and include men and women, children and infants, as well as those in need of medical care.”
