Coalition’s Political Committee & Syrian Interim Government Discuss Stepping Up Work Inside Liberated Areas

The Syrian Coalition’s political committee on Thursday held an expanded meeting in the Turkish city of Gaziantep with officials of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG). The meeting was attended by the Coalition President Riad Seif and Head of the Syrian Interim Government Jawad Abu Hatab.

Seif stressed the need for SIG to continue the provision of services to the civilian population in the liberated areas. He described SIG’s takeover of the management of Bab Al-Salama border crossing as “an important step on the way to improve SIG’s performance.”

The Syrian Coalition is seeking at international forums to reinforce the cease-fire, put an end to Assad’s crimes, and enable SIG staff to step up the work of its institutions in the liberated areas, Seif added.

Seif pointed out that SIG is facing enormous challenges with regards to curbing lawlessness and rebuilding the infrastructure which was destroyed by the Assad regime and its allies during their ongoing brutal military operations on the liberated areas.

SIG ministers gave a detailed explanation of the work of SIG and its future projects. SIG’s Head Abu Hatab said that SIG ministers and staff are exerting considerable efforts to improve services in the liberated areas, especially in the areas of education and health.

Abu Hatab pointed out that work in Bab Al-Salama border crossing requires about three months to start according to new regulations after repairs and equipping has been completed. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people’s unity within the same Syrian soil
is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its
symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes
against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
