Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Ilah Fahd thanked the Lebanese General Ashraf Rifi for his role in the resolving of the issue of the Rihaniyya camp for Syrian refugees in Lebanon’s Akkar Plain near the Syrian border.
The Lebanese authorities on November 11 issued a verbally ultimatum to residents of the camp ordering them to evacuate in a maximum period of ten days. Rihaniyya camp is the biggest among nearly 25 Syrian refugee camps strewn across Akkar Plain.
In a telephone conversation with Rifi on Monday, Fahd pointed to the unspeakable suffering of Syrian refugees who have been displaced from their homes by the Assad regime. He stressed the need for standing by Syrian refugees in their plight.
On November 25, the union of the relief associations in Lebanon announced that the Lebanese Army informed them that no formal decision has yet been made to empty the Rihaniyya Syrian refugee camp.
Fahd also expressed appreciation for all those who stood in solidarity with the Syrian refugees in Rihaniyya refugee camp and for their role in preventing the evacuation of the camp. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Office)
