Death Toll: 17 killed in Syria today, 65 yesterday Local Coordination Committees in Syria documented 65 martyrs killed yesterday, while 17 people were documented as being killed as of press time today, including 2 children and 2 martyrs killed under torture. Regime forces pound Damascus with heavy artillery Assad’s Forces shelled Barzeh neighborhood in Damascus with heavy artillery and machine guns, inflicting civilian casualties, some in critical condition. Civilian casualties were also reported in the neighborhoods of Bab Tuma and Qasaa’ due to several stray mortar shells that landed in the region. The Free Syrian Army clashed with regime forces on the outskirts of the district of al Tadamon and in the neighborhoods Dariya and Moadamiya alongside heavy shelling by regime forces on the region. In addition, the Free Syrian Army repelled regime’s forces, backed by terrorist militias of Hezbollah and the Abu al Fadl al Abbas Brigade, following clashes in Beit Sahem. Regime forces also shelled Al Yarmouk refugee camp and al Qadam neighborhood with rocket launchers, which caused civilian casualties and destroyed civilian homes. Regime forces renew shelling on Homs A civilian was killed and others were injured by regime’s mortar rounds that fell on the Insha’at neighborhood in Homs. In addition, regime forces renewed the shelling on the besieged neighborhoods in the city causing civilian casualties and massive destruction of the infrastructure of the area. Meanwhile, Al Waer district near Homs came under heavy shelling with heavy machine guns, resulting in civilian casualties and the destruction of many buildings. FSA attack Assad’s forces in Hanano barracks in Aleppo The Free Syrian Army attacked Assad’s troops stationed in the Hanano barracks in Aleppo and inflicted losses on them. Meanwhile, the regime’s warplanes dropped barrel bombs on the town of Bilat and Jub al Safa near al Safeera which resulted in substantial damage to civilian homes. Four regime soldiers were killed and others injured during clashes with the FSA. America: Kurdish National Council’s merger with Coalition is positive step The United States expressed its satisfaction for the presence of representatives of the National Council of Kurdish Syrians within the Coalition which will “ensure better representation of the diversity of the Syrian people.” A spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department, Jane Bsaki, also expressed satisfaction with the decision of the Syrian National Coalition to participate in the Geneva II Conference on the condition that it will result in the departure of Bashar al – Assad and described the decision as ” striking progress in the process of preparation for the conference which aims to form a transitional government with full executive powers.” The Syrian Coalition agreed last Monday (Source: Syrian Coalition)
West refuses Assad’s request for military equipment for disposing CW Diplomats said that Western countries “will reject the request of the Assad regime for equipment and military materials for transporting for chemical weapons out of the country because the armored trucks and other gear required can be used in fighting the rebels.” The Government of the Assad regime provided what was described as a “long list of purchases” for processing and securing land convoys to travel en route from Damascus to the coast. The diplomat said that the West will not supply the Assad regime with equipment that can be used by the army to kill more innocent Syrians. Assad regime recently asked the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for dozens of armored vehicles, generators and field kitchens along with some other equipment that was said to be needed to transport 1,300 tons of chemicals to the port of Latakia on the Mediterranean coast to implement the disposal of chemical weapons agreement. The Assad regime also requested new means for communication between Damascus and the coastal cities on the grounds that it was required to help secure the road for dozens of containers required to be moved. Egypt denies deportation of Syrians Egypt has denied forcing any Syrian refugees to leave its territory, except in the cases where entry into the country was proven to be through illegal immigration. Egypt also declared that the abolition of visas for Syrians will be canceled with the stability of Egypt’s security situation. A statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “the action taken in cases of offenders who will be deported will be to allow them to choose their destinations without being returned to Syria.” The Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s statement came in response to a Human Rights Watch report which condemned “the Egyptian authorities for arresting more than 1,500 Syrian refugees, including 250 children with their parents, and deporting most of them.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
