Assad’s Massacres and International Silence May Impede Participation in Geneva II

110 Tuberculosis Cases among Syrian Refugees in Jordan
The Jordanian Ministry of Health said that it has detected 110 cases of tuberculosis among the Syrian refugees since entering Jordanian territory. “There are also suspected cases awaiting lab tests. The World Health Organization released a report confirming the existence of 20 cases of the disease in every 100,000 Syrian refugees,” an official in the Jordanian ministry said. The official warned that the number of infections might increase, and expected the number to increase to more than 200 cases. “A patient of tuberculosis may infect 13 people on average. There are five cases of intractable tuberculosis, with a cost of treatment of 72,000 Jordanian dinars for every case,” he stressed. (Source: Syrian Coalition)

Interim Government to Secure Humanitarian Aid
The Syrian interim government is making efforts to secure humanitarian and relief aid to the Syrian people through a number of meetings to be held between Ahmad Tomah, head of the interim government, and officials in the GCC. Tomah earlier met with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, and discussed the best ways to provide support the interim government to help them assume their responsibilities for the Syrian people. He also called on the GCC countries to make sincere efforts to support the Syrian people enabling them to withstand the latest aerial campaign that claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians. Tomah stressed that the interim government’s top priorities are ensuring safety and security in the liberated areas, which can be achieved “only through restructuring and reorganizing the Free Syrian Army, army as well as delivering aid in the field of health, education and local councils.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)

Death Toll: 61 people killed today, 178 yesterday
The Local Coordination Committees in Syria documented 178 people killed yesterday, while 61 people were killed as of 6:00 pm of today, including 5 women and 3 children. Deaths were cited as: 38 in Aleppo, 9 in, 6 in Idlib, 4 in Homs, 3 in Dara’a, and one in Deir Ezzor. (Source: Local Coordination Committees)

50 Killed In a New Massacre in Nabek
Residents of Nabek northeast of Damascus recovered fifty bodies of people that activists said were executed by militias of Assad and Iraqi Zu al Faqar Brigade. This massacre adds to five previous massacres committed by regime forces over the past two months. A number of civilians were killed as a result of regime shelling on the town of Adra in Rural Damascus. The shelling caused a massive fire in Sadcop industrial plant and severe damage in the town. In addition, regime forces shelled the districts of Douma, Madiyara, Jisreen, Moadamiyah, Ifra, and Kafr al Zeit, with reports of civilian casualties and material damage. Regime losses in Nawa near Dara’a
The Free Syrian Army targeted regime positions in the eastern outskirts of Nawa near Dara’a using mortar rounds and RPGs killing a number of regime forces and injuring others. Regime forces pounded the town of Sheikh Misqin with heavy artillery and machine-guns, with reports of civilian casualties and material damage. Meanwhile, Assad’s warplanes launched air strikes on Dara’a al Mahattah, alongside violent clashes between the Free Syrian Army and regime forces. Archaeological Sites in Homs Damaged By Regime Shelling
A woman was killed and dozens wounded by regime shelling on the town of Krak des Chevaliers in rural Homs. The town of Rastan also came under intense shelling which resulted in dozens of civilian casualties, some in serious condition. Meanwhile, regime forces shelled the towns of Aqrab, Aydoun and Al Tilol Al Humr, injuring a number of civilians and causing material damage. Violent clashes erupted between the Free Syrian Army and regime forces in Mork north of Hama, with reports of regime losses. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Local Coordination Committees)

Islamic Front Advances on Regime Forces in Deir Ezzor
Battalions of the Islamic Front overran a number of regime positions in Deir Ezzor following violent clashes with regime forces, with reports of death of 50 pro-Assad troops. In addition, 17 regime soldiers were killed during their attempt to storm the neighborhood of Rashidiya. Regime forces shelled the village of Al-Geneina west of Deir Ezzor, killing two people and injuring others. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Local Coordination Committees)

Barrel Bombs Kill Five Children In Idlib Province
Five children were killed in the town Ma’arrat Hurma in rural Idlib by barrel bombs dropped by Assad’s air force on the town. Warplanes also bombed the towns of Binnish, Alroyjh and Mount Zawiyah and Al Bara in rural Idlib, with reports of civilian damage and material damage. Barrel Bombs Kill 43 in Sukkari District of Aleppo
Assad’s air force continued the aerial campaign on Aleppo, killing 43 civilians in the district of Sukkari and injuring dozens. A number of civilians were also killed by aerial shelling on the districts of Ansari, Ikhlas, and on the towns of Azzaz, Atareb, Masqana, Ratiyan and Shamer.
