Rights groups said they documented 113 people killed across Syrian on Sunday, including 23 children and 16 women. The district of Douma in eastern Ghouta bore the brunt of the Russian airstrikes in which cluster and vacuum bombs were used.
Vice-president of the Syrian Coalition Hisham Marwa described the attacks on Douma as a genocide and systematic terror directed primarily against civilians.
Marwa said that recent atrocities committed by the Assad regime and its Russian backers in Syria came as a response to the outcome of the Riyadh opposition conference, adding they are designed to shuffle the cards with the aim of wriggling out of any political settlement to the conflict.
Secretary of the political committee Anas al-Abda strongly condemned the brutal bombing, calling on the international community’s to shoulder its responsibilities in maintaining international security and peace. He also called for taking immediate action to relieve the civilians and the wounded in areas east of Syria; particularly eastern Ghouta, in line with the UN Security Council resolution No. 2165, which calls for humanitarian aid access to the besieged areas.
Abda stresseed that all initiatives aimed at reaching a political solution are doomed to fail unless the UN Security Council resolution 2139 is enforced, including the cessation of indiscriminate shelling and the barrel bombing of populated areas. He stressed the need to immediate lifting of the siege on all besieged areas and the delivery of relief aid to those in need. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
