The Syrian Coalition met with the European Union representative Lara Scarpetta on Friday in Istanbul where the two sides discussed the latest political, field developments and the Syrian Coalition’s recent political activities, the latest of which was the meeting held with the UN envoy Staffan de Mistura yesterday.
The Syrian Coalition calls on EU members to play a more positive role that is commensurate with the EU position. “Terrorist acts are not limited to Syria alone, but they are internationally linked together. A clear proof of this are the four terrorist bombings that took place simultaneously in four different countries last week,” the Syrian Coalition said.
Scarpetta said that the EU welcomes and supports the Syrian Coalition’s efforts to continue consultation meetings with the rest of the Syrian opposition components in order to reach common ground that serves the goals of the Syrian revolution. The Syrian Coalition stresses that formulating a unified position with the spectra of the opposition is an important national duty in order to put an end to Assad’s rule and initiate a transitional process that achieves the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom and democracy.
The meeting touched on the difficult situation in eastern Syria in general, and in Ain al-Arab (Kobani) and Tal Abyad in particular. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
