Nazir Hakim, a member of the Political Committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, has emphasized that the disaster caused by the earthquake that hit Syria and Türkiye in February was exploited not only by the Assad regime but also by its allies. Instead of providing aid to the affected people, they supported the regime and its militias with weapons and ammunition.
Hakim pointed out that the earthquake occurred after the series of disasters created by the Assad regime over more than eleven years. Even during natural disasters, the Assad regime and its allies revealed their callous mentality towards people’s tragedies.
In addition to its participation in killing the Syrian people who demanded freedom, the Iranian mullahs’ regime also exploited the natural disasters for the benefit of the criminal regime, as per Hakim. According to a Reuters report, Western, Israeli, Syrian, and Iranian sources confirmed that the Iranian regime took advantage of the earthquake disaster in Syria to transfer new weapons and military equipment to Syria under the guise of relief activities.
The report reveals that hundreds of flights from Tehran started to land at the airports of Aleppo, Damascus, and Latakia, bringing supplies for seven weeks after the February 6 earthquake, which left tens of thousands of victims in northern Syria and Türkiye. The Iranian supplies included advanced communications equipment, radar batteries, and spare parts required for a planned upgrade of the Assad regime’s air defense system provided by Tehran.
Most of the shipments arrived at Aleppo International Airport, and Unit 18000 of the Iranian Quds Force worked to receive and transport them, while weapons were transported by land through Iraqi territory by Unit 190, as per the Israeli source cited by Reuters. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
