Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee, Muhammad Nazir al-Hakim, stressed that the Syrian people have redefined the concept of refugee around the world by virtue the spirit of love, loyalty, creativity and sincerity they are showing in work and their contribution to the development and progress of the host countries.
On the occasion of World Refugee Day, Al-Hakim sent a message to all Syrian refugees: “Your courage has made this day a global event that demonstrates the strength and determination of the women, men and children who were forced to flee their homeland so escape persecution, conflict and violence.”
Al-Hakim added that the Syrian people did not accept humiliation, or to be stripped of their dignity, and that they endured all misfortunes and hardships in order to live in freedom.
Al-Hakim pointed out that the Syrian refugees quickly adapted to the host societies, advancing in learning and qualification, joining the labor market, and excelling in the educational, economic and social fields.
Al-Hakim called on the host countries to assume their responsibilities and abide by international laws on the protection of refugees and preserving their basic rights. He also called for keeping them away from the internal political disputes in the host countries, stressing the need to confront the racism and hate speech. He stressed that refugees are not criminals, terrorists, or even fleeing from the defense of their country, but rather victims of terrorism and mass murder.
