Head of the Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee’s (HNC), Nasr al-Hariri, said that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has the responsibility to enforce international resolutions on Syria, most importantly UN Security Council resolutions 2118 and 2254.
In a meeting with the China’s Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan on Friday morning, Hariri said that the Syrian opposition came with a unified delegation to Geneva to engage into serious and direct negotiations with the Assad regime. He called on the international community to exert pressure on the Assad regime to engage in the process.
Hariri went on to say that the HNC’s delegation came with a clear vision and strategy.
For his part, the Chinese envoy praised the willingness of the HNC delegation of to enter into direct negotiations with the Assad regime as he expressed his country’s support for the arrangements of the current political process in Geneva.
