The opposition’s High Negotiating Committee (HNC) on Thursday welcomed the 12-point document provided by the UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura which outlined principles of a political solution in Syria.
The HNC reaffirmed adherence to its demands for forming a transitional governing body with full powers as a basis for political solution.
Deputy Head of HNC George Sabra ruled out reaching a political solution without Russia exerting pressure on the Assad regime, accusing the regime’s negotiating delegation of prevarication and lack of seriousness about engaging in negotiations.
Sabra indicated that the Syrian opposition is committed to continuing talking, adding that negotiations will be resumed at the beginning of the second week of April.
The HNC spokesman Salem al-Meslet said that the Assad regime insists on trying to stall the talks, adding that opposition delegation has studied de Mistura’s document. Meslet also said that de Mistura sees the issue of political transition as the top priority. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Al-Jazeera)
