The High Negotiations Committee said that it stands by the will of the Turkish people who took to the streets yesterday in response to the coup attempt in Turkey.
The HNC General Coordinator Riad Hijab said that the “will of the people is stronger than the tanks,” voicing support for the legitimate democratically elected government in Turkey. He called for preserving state institutions and the protection of freedoms in Turkey.
HNC spokesman Riad Nassan Agha said that the Syrian people stand with Turkey and the Turkish people against the coup attempt, stressing that the Syrian people will remain grateful to all peoples and nations that stood by their side in their ordeal.
Agha pointed out that the Syrian people, who rose up for democracy and who have made immense sacrifices to put an end to the rule of military dictators, stand by democracy and the legitimate government in Turkey. He added that the Syrian people naturally stand by the country that opened its doors for them and provided them with help and support.
Agha described as historic the role Turkey played throughout the tough years the Syrian people have gone through. The Turkish people’s defense of democracy boosted hopes that the Syrian people will achieve their primary goal and establish democracy, Agha added. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Smart News)
