The Syrian Coalition mourns the death of Imam Riad Al-Kharqi, head of the Shariah Committee in Eastern Ghouta, who died on May 23 of wounds sustained in a suicide bombing by ISIS 19 days ago.
Spokesman for the Syrian Coalition Salem al-Meslet said that “for over four years the Syrian Revolution has shown no sign of abating, safeguarded against extremism by moderate scholars who clarify to the world the tolerance of Islam.”
“The teachings of the revolution’s scholars have been a bulwark against fanatical and extremist views, which collided with attempts of the Assad regime and ISIS to derail and tarnish the image of the revolution. ISIS, therefore, have targeted one of the Syrian revolution’s symbols, Riad Al-Kharqi, head of the Shariah Committee in Eastern Ghouta and member of the Revolutionary Command Council in Damascus,” Meslet added.
“Our real consolation is through sticking to Al-Kharqi’s approach in fighting extremism and continue with the revolution till we achieve the objectives of the Syrian people in freedom, dignity and justice.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
