The Syrian Coalition reiterates calls on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities and take immediate action to implement the UN Security Council’s resolution 2139 that calls for lifting the siege on all areas and the introduction of relief aid to civilians trapped inside.
Spokesman for the Syrian Coalition Salem al-Meslet said that ISIS fighters have laid siege on more than 300,000 civilians in Al Qusour and Al Joura neighborhoods in Deir Ezzor, blocking entry and exit of civilians and food supplies amid frequent cuts of communications, power and water.
Meslet added that the Assad regime is applying the same policy of starvation of civilians in many areas across Syria, especially in East Ghouta near Damascus and Al Waer district in Homs province.
He points out that ISIS’s siege of Deir Ezzor is approaching its fourth week, adding that the Assad regime is using civilians and his militants as cannon fodder to hold to power and reestablish his authoritarian rule.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
