Badr Jamous, Secretary General of the Syrian Coalition, calls for protection of civilians in Syria from the oppression of the Assad regime, stressing “the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities, most notably with regard to the protection of civilians, especially women and children.” Jamous also points out that 141 women were killed during last March, including two who died under torture in detention centers. Scores of civilians were also killed in Syria on Tuesday, including two children. “Jamous pointed to a report released by the Syrian Network for Human Rights who said that 12,935 women were killed in Syria since the beginning of the revolution, including 3,614 children. Jamous cited Syrian organizations who documented that 31 Syrian woman died under torture in detention centers of the Assad regime, and that more than 5,000 others had been detained by regime forces since the beginning of the revolution.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
