He discussed the latest developments in the political process in Syria and the outcomes of his recent visits and meetings, particularly his recent tour in New York, USA.
Jamous reported that during the Commission’s visit to New York, they informed UN Security Council member states about the deteriorating situation in Syria across all levels. The Commission urged the UN Security Council members to take their responsibilities seriously and emphasized the necessity of advancing a political solution.
Jamous highlighted the severity of the Syrian situation and the need for Syrian solidarity and cooperation to prevent further deterioration. He stressed the importance of complementarity and participation among political forces, civil society, activists, politicians, and all active groups aiming to change the political reality in Syria and build a state founded on justice, law, and equality.
Jamous provided an overview of the international meetings held by the Commission in New York last week. These included meetings with diplomats, ambassadors, foreign representatives, and the Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations. The discussions focused on the political solution, UN Resolution 2254, the Assad regime’s evasion of its implementation, the issue of detainees and the forcibly disappeared, the conditions of refugees, the rejection of normalization with the regime, and the humanitarian situation in Syria.
He affirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to achieving the aspirations of Syrians for justice and dignity, building a state based on the rule of law and equal citizenship, and upholding the principles of the Syrian revolution. This effort requires significant collective and participatory work. Therefore, the Commission seeks to establish strong relationships with Syrian civil society organizations, active societal forces, the media, research centers, and activists, both internally and externally, to advance the Syrian cause.
He concluded that the Commission is highly active at the international level to ensure the Syrian issue remains a priority for influential countries.
