The joint delegation of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) and the Syrian Negotiations Commission (SNC) to the United States met with the French mission to the UN on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. They discussed the latest developments on the ground and in the political process.
The meeting brought together SOC’s Vice-presidents Abdulahad Asteifo and Abdul-Hakim Bashar, SNC’s member Fadwa Al-Ujaili, and France’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Nathalie Broadhurst.
The joint delegation talked about the latest developments in Syria, especially the crimes that the Assad regime and its backers are committing in Idlib, as well as the violations by the terrorist PKK organization in eastern Syria.
The delegation also talked about the latest developments in the political process and the Assad regime’s refusal to seriously engage in the process which aims to reach a political solution in accordance with UN resolutions, most importantly the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
The delegation stressed the importance of the renewal of the UN resolution on the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need in Syria, calling for a bigger French role in Syrian, especially at the European level.
For her part, Broadhurst reiterated her country’s political and humanitarian support for the Syrian people. She spoke about the extension of UN Resolution 2585 on the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid, and the needs of the liberated areas to confront the Covid-19 pandemic.
