The Joint Syrian-Turkish Committee convened in the Turkish capital, Ankara on Wednesday. The meeting brought together Secretary General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition Abdelbaset Abdullatif and his accompanying delegation as well as Directorate General for the Turkish Migration Management, Savaş Ünlü.
The two sides discussed the situation of the Syrian refugees in Turkey, the problems facing them, and ways to resolve those problems and improve the living conditions of Syrian refugees.
The two sides commended the fruitful cooperation and success of the dedicated communication channels between the two sides which helped resolve many problems. They also discussed strengthening the role of the Joint Syrian-Turkish Committee as an official body in Turkey.
Ünlü pointed out that there is a set of important measures that the administration will announce shortly.
With regard to a request by the Committee to resolve the issue of renewing tourist residencies and the facilitations to obtain them, Ünlü said that the Directorate will introduce new measures in this regard that will be announced shortly. He also promised that the Directorate will look into the issue of the work permits.
Ünlü pointed out that the Directorate is working to introduce new procedures for giving appointments to holders of the temporary protection ID cards so that the process becomes easier for the Directorate and the immigrants alike.
With regard to a request to address the issue of travel permits and the movement of media workers, Ünlü said that the Directorate will study the issue of freedom of movement, especially for those working in the media and civil society organizations. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
