Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Mohammed Jojah said that regime forces and the Iranian-backed militias continue to block the entry of aid convoys to Alwaer district in Homs with the aim of undermining the political process and to prevent political transition in Syria.
“The Assad regime and its Iranian ally are seeking to disrupt negotiations in Geneva to prevent the implementation of UN resolutions calling for the formation of a transitional governing body, which effectively means the departure of the regime,” Jojah said.
Activists in Homs said that the Assad regime forces and the Iranian-backed militias prevented aid convoys from entering the besieged neighborhood of Alwaer on Saturday and threatened to target them. Regime snipers have targeted the staff members of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent who have been allowed entry to the besieged district. A civilian has been injured.
The district has also come under mortar shelling by regime forces and their allies, and aid convoys remain blocked from entering the area.
Jojah stressed that the Assad regime and Iran believe only in a military solution to the crisis, adding that they agreed to participate in the upcoming round of Geneva negotiations only to buy time and impose a military solution in Syria. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
