President Khoja and the UN envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, met to discuss the details of the initiative to halt the bombing of Aleppo in de Mistura’s framework to freeze the fighting in parts of Aleppo, on Wednesday morning in Istanbul.
Khoja stresses that besides halting the bombing, the initiative should also stop the killing by all other means. Moreover, Khoja reiterates that the “freeze” plan should be part of comprehensive solution that covers all Syria within the framework of the Geneva II declaration.
Khoja briefed the UN envoy about the Syrian Coalition’s position on the plan, stressing that it should be consistent with relevant international resolutions and the Geneva conference and that it must ensure lifting the siege imposed by regime forces on the rebel-held areas and the delivery of humanitarian aid to these areas.
“Any regional or international initiative that does not fit with or circumvents the concept of the Geneva conference is doomed to fail,” Khoja said referring to the Cairo and Moscow meetings. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
