Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Michel Kilo said that the heroic resistance and steadfastness of the people of eastern Aleppo will shape the future of Syria, calling on all revolutionary forces to close ranks and step up support for the FSA and rebel fighters defending the city.
“Russia’s announcement of a so-called humanitarian pause to its bombing campaign on Aleppo over the past few days was not a moral choice, but a direct result of the firm resistance being shown by the FSA and rebel fighters on all battle fronts in the city,” Kilo said. He pointed out that “Aleppo is now at a crossroads as the Russians feel their aerial campaign is failing to help the Assad regime recapture the entire city.”
The veteran Syrian dissident noted that Russia has lately given priority to the so-called local truces and evacuation deals in order to avoid losses among its forces operating in Syria amid rising calls inside Russia to halt military operations in Syria. Kilo said that Russia risks getting itself into a prolonged conflict in Syria.
Meanwhile, the second phase of the offensive the FSA and rebel fighters began on October 28 to break the siege by regime forces and their allies on eastern Aleppo and liberate the regime-held western parts of the city continues. On Friday, FSA and rebel fighters announced they managed to break into the strategic 3,000 Apartments Project area in western Aleppo. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Office)
