The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council has issued a statement regarding the abduction of journalist Rakan Al-Ahmad by an armed group associated with the PYD terrorist militia. The statement underscores that this intimidating tactic aims to conceal their political and administrative shortcomings.
According to the statement, journalist and Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria member Rakan Al-Ahmad was abducted by a PYD-affiliated armed group on the evening of March 29, 2024, following a raid on his residence in the town of Ma’bada near Rmelan. The General Secretariat emphasizes that this abduction is part of a pattern of intimidation against Kurdish National Council supporters, serving to mask the group’s political and administrative failures.
The Kurdish National Council strongly condemns these violations of fundamental human rights against citizens, council members, and supporters. It calls upon public opinion, community organizations, and the international anti-ISIS coalition to intervene and prevent such repeated violations, which include raids on Kurdish National Council and Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria offices, as well as the burning of their contents, including flags and Kurdish symbols.
Furthermore, the Council demands an end to the ongoing daily harassment of Peshmerga families and threats against their relatives. It asserts that these intimidation tactics will not deter the Council from persisting in its struggle to secure Kurdish rights in Syria.
