The Kurdish National Council (KNC) condemned the repressive practices the militias of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) continue to carry out against leaders, members, and supporters of the Council in Syria. The Council stressed that such practices and policies are contrary to the values ​​of freedom and democracy and are detrimental to the Kurdish cause in Syria.
The KNC called upon the international community to put pressure on the PYD militia to release all political prisoners from its jails and to stop its repressive and intimidating practices against the Council at this critical juncture in Syria’s history.
The Kurdish Future Movement said that the Assad regime continues with its repressive practices against the Syrian Kurds, especially by kidnapping Kurdish dissidents using Kurdish militias affiliated to the PKK and its armed wing in Syria, the PYD, as tools.
The Kurdish Future Movement held the PYD responsible for the safety of the Movement’s senior member Fadi Marie whose whereabouts remain unknown. It called upon the PYD to desist from such practices which only serve the Assad regime. It also called upon all political and social actors to press for ending the repressive practices of the PKK and the dictatorial regime and to expose their criminal practices.
The PYD militiamen on Thursday kidnapped Fadi Marie of the Future Movement and member of the KNC’s Secretariat while he was travelling on the Qamishli-Ma’abada road in northeastern Syria.
The PYD militants also kidnaped member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Hussein Suleiman near the village of Zukhairi while he was paying a visit to his colleagues who have been recently released from the PYD prisons. Suleiman was taken to an unknown destination.
The KNC held the PYD responsible for the safety of Suleiman and called for his immediate release along with all KNC members are still detained by the PYD militias. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Office)
