The Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon has expressed its solidarity with the Syrian people and its unwavering support for the Syrian Revolution. In a statement regarding the escalating campaign of hatred against Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the Association rejected racist rhetoric and hate speech, warning that they could fuel conflict between Lebanese people and Syrian refugees, and between Syrian refugees and the Lebanese state.
The statement emphasized that the tyrant Assad, who has killed, maimed, displaced, and destroyed, should not evade punishment, and certainly should not be rewarded with normalized relationships. The Association stated that forced deportation and the surrender of Syrian dissidents to the murderous Assad regime is a moral and legal crime that amounts to premediated murder and a crime against humanity.
The Association concluded its statement by underlining the dignity and safety of the Syrian brethren, the need to safeguard their rights, and to calm their concerns until their voluntary, safe return with international guarantees. It pointed out that the departure of the tyrant Assad and his clique, and the withdrawal of sectarian militias and foreign occupiers from Syria, especially Lebanese militants, is the number one guarantee.
