The Suwayda 24 local news network reported obtaining evidence indicating attempts by the Hezbollah terrorist militia to expand its presence south of the Syrian capital, Damascus, towards the provinces of Daraa and Suwayda, aiming to establish a foothold in this strategic region.
According to the network, Hezbollah militia activity has surged in the area south of the Damascus International Airport road and east of the Damascus-Suwayda Highway over the past six months. This area, described by activists as the “southern suburb of Damascus,” is now recognized as a key stronghold of Iranian militias in Syria.
These developments coincide with increased military reinforcements dispatched by the Assad regime to Suwayda province, described as the largest deployment of its kind. The convoy includes troop carriers, tanks, armored vehicles, and numerous heavy vehicles.
Khuzama Al-Afif, a Member of the General Assembly of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), issued a warning on Monday regarding the Assad regime’s efforts to suppress the peaceful protests in Suwayda.
Al-Afif emphasized the united resolve of the Suwayda people against regime threats, asserting their refusal to relinquish their legitimate demands, which reflect the aspirations of the Syrian people and the goals of the Syrian revolution.
Al-Afif urged the international community to fulfill its obligations in protecting civilians in Suwayda and preventing the Assad regime from launching military operations against them. Given the regime’s extensive history of massacres and war crimes against civilians, Al-Afif held the United Nations accountable for any bloodshed in Suwayda.
