Meeting with Turkey's Deputy Minister of Interior to Discuss Mechanisms for Facilitating Syrians' Affairs

Enas al-Najjar, Director of Communications for the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee and a member of the Refugees and Displaced Persons Working Group in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), met with Turkish Deputy Minister of Interior Mehmet Aktaş in the Turkish capital, Ankara. The meeting addressed recent developments related to Syria, the situation of Syrian refugees in Türkiye, and the challenges they face, as well as potential solutions to enhance their stability and improve their living conditions.

Najjar emphasized the importance of allowing Syrians to obtain round-trip permits to Syria, highlighting the significant role such measures play in enabling them to visit their homes and loved ones, while also supporting informed decisions regarding voluntary return for those interested, in a way that benefits all parties.

For his part, AktaÅŸ reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people, clarifying that there are no decisions to force Syrians to return to their country. He also emphasized that Türkiye’s doors will remain open to all.

Rahmeh Urges Benghazi Authorities to Release Syrian Refugees Detained on Baseless Charges Haytham Rahmeh, Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), called on the Benghazi authorities in Libya to release Syrian refugees detained for celebrating the fall of the Assad regime. In a press statement, Rahmeh emphasized that Syrians had been awaiting this moment for nearly 14 years. He stated that their joy at the fall of the criminal regime was on par with the celebrations witnessed across the Arab and Islamic world. Rahmeh underscored the necessity of immediately releasing the detained Syrian refugees and treating them with dignity in accordance with international humanitarian law and human rights. He called for facilitating their living conditions until Syria's transitional phase is completed and a safe and neutral environment is created to ensure the voluntary return of all refugees. According to the Free Houran activist group, Benghazi authorities arrested dozens of Syrians during a celebratory march in Benghazi, accusing them of supporting terrorism. The arrests occurred roughly 12 days ago. A source close to one of the detainees told the Free Houran activist group that the Benghazi authorities had detained over 80 people from Dara'a province. The authorities demanded $4,000 per detainee for their release. The activist group sais that the Benghazi authorities leveled baseless charges against the detained individuals for their participation in the celebration of Assad's fall. It clarified that all detainees are civilians unassociated with any military entity, working primarily in construction and carpentry. (Source: SOC's Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
