In a major development in the southern front, the Free Syrian Army fighters have eliminated the presence of ISIS in the provinces of Dara’a and Quneitra after declaring war on this extremist group three days ago. The offensive came in response to the emergence of some ISIS elements in parts of the two province.
Spokesman for the Syrian Coalition Salem al-Meslet said that the Free Syrian Army has proved once again that it is the only force capable of defeating extremist organizations, thanks to high level of coordination among FSA battalions which fought under a unified command. The recent victory over ISIS in the south was achieved despite the lack of enough support and the fact that the FSA has been fighting on two fronts. Furthermore, for over a year the Assad regime’s air force has refrained from targeting ISIS positions and instead committed all its firepower to target the FSA.
“The recent rebel gains on multiple fronts impose a new political reality that has to be taken into account and be built on for reaching a final and definitive solution that achieves the aspirations of the Syrian people and ends this chapter of the history of Syria.”
“Efforts must be combined to pay the way for initiating a political transition that puts an end to the tragedy caused by the Assad regime and opens the door to reconstruction and the transition of Syria to a civil democratic state.”
Meslet renews confidence in the forces of the revolution that defend civilians and abide by the principles of the revolution and its morals and respect international conventions, while at the same time reiterates the Syrian Coalition’s adherence to the principles and goals of the revolution.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
