On Friday, Syrians across various cities and regions participated in extensive anti-regime demonstrations, spanning from the northern to the southern parts of the country. These protests showcased solidarity with demonstrators in Suwayda and Daraa provinces, and firmly asserted commitment to freedom, dignity, and the regime’s overthrow.
President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, praised the courageous and unwavering spirit of the free Syrian people. Via a tweet on his Twitter account, he hailed the resilient crowds witnessed in Suwayda, Daraa, Aleppo, Deir Ezzor, and other Syrian areas. He also saluted the revolutionaries in liberated regions who lent their support to the anti-regime movement in the south.
Al-Meslet stressed that the Assad regime’s capacity to break the will of the Syrian populace is futile. He highlighted that even after over 12 years, people are rallying anew around the initial ideals. A consensus prevails among Syrians that resolution of crises lies in uprooting the regime, a nexus of terrorism and corruption.
He further underscored the imperative for the international community to recognize the regime’s illegitimacy and comprehend that its removal holds the key to the long-awaited solution for Syrians.
Anti-regime demonstrations unfolded today in several locations including Al-Bab, Afrin, Marea, Azaz, Al-Atareb, and Darat Azza in Aleppo’s countryside. Similar protests took place in Jisr Al-Shughour, Darkush, Binnish, Khirbet Al-Juz, and Killi in Idlib’s countryside. Demonstrations were also held in Daraa Al-Balad, Inkhil, Nawa, Al-Taybeh, Jassem, Al-Muzayrib, Busra Al-Sham, Al-Hirak, and Tafas in Daraa province, as well as Ras Al-Ayn in Al-Hasakah province, Al-Raqqa city, and Deir Ezzor. Across these gatherings, unified chants echoed for the regime’s overthrow and the establishment of a future befitting Syria’s people and their sacrifices.
At Al-Sir (Al-Karama) Square in Suwayda, demonstrators raised the flag of the Syrian Revolution. Conversely, security services tightened their hold on neighborhoods in Aleppo that witnessed protests on Thursday, aiming to suppress any potential solidarity demonstrations with Suwayda and Daraa.
In a previous statement, the SOC reiterated full support for the uprisings in Daraa and Suwayda in southern Syria, as well as the coastal protests against the Assad regime, all of which call for its overthrow.
The SOC emphasized that Syria requires the collective efforts of its citizens to manifest the shared aspirations for freedom, justice, and dignity—a vision incompatible with the Assad regime’s presence.
