The Syrian National Coalition Representative to the Benelux and EU, Mouaffaq Nyrabia, today delivered a letter to Ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the EU, on the ongoing killing of civilians by the Assad regime and Russia in Syria.
The letter said that “the Syrian opposition, despite all the challenges, have worked to uphold the cessation of hostilities agreement. Over 100 violations by Assad regime and Russian forces have been documented since the agreement went into effect, resulting in more than 70 civilian deaths according to the Violations Documentation Centre.”
Nyrabia stressed that Europe’s focus must now lie on the monitoring, verification and enforcement of this agreement. He called on EU Members States to publicly condemn all violations of the “cessation of hostilities” agreement, including the unlawful indiscriminate use of force by the Assad regime and Russia.
Nyrabia also called upon the EU to support accountability and to “ensure that accountability is at the core of any political process, including by prosecuting and/or extraditing any individuals implicated in war crimes and crimes against humanity.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
