Coordinator of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Syrian Communities Abroad, Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, submitted a report on the Office’s work to the political committee, detailing its efforts to reach out to Syrian communities in the diaspora.
Maktabi said that the Office is seeking to form lobbying and advocacy groups for the cause of the Syrian people in reaching a political solution in accordance with UN resolutions, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolution 2254 in a way that meets the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity and democratic transition.
Maktabi gave on overview on the discussions that the Office has recently held with Syrian communities abroad, the most recent of which was with the Syrian-American organizations. He described the discussions as positive.
He also pointed out that the SOC outlined its vision for a political solution in Syria based on the implementation of UN resolutions, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254. He called on the Syrian-American organizations to convey this vision to the upcoming US administration with the aim of working to implement it. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
