President of the Syrian National Coalition, Anas Al Abda, met with the Secretary General of the Progress and Socialism Party, Nabil Benabdallah, in the Moroccan capital Rabat on Monday.
The two sides discussed the latest political developments and security situation in Syria as well as the required Arab stance on the eve of the launch of the meetings of the Constitutional Committee under the auspices of the United Nations in Geneva.
President al-Abda praised Rabat’s stances in support of the Syrian revolution since hosting the international meeting in Marrakesh in late 2012 which secured international recognition of the Syrian National Coalition. The Coalition delegation included Vice-president, Oqab Yahya, and member of the political committee Ahmed Ramadan.
President al-Abda said that the Syrian people highly appreciate the efforts of the leadership and the people of Morocco to support the revolution. He said that the Syrian people hope that this support will continue until they achieve their goal of a real transition towards democracy.
For his part, Benabdallah stressed that Morocco’s position with all its political forces has not changed since the beginning of the revolution and that the hearts of Moroccans are with their brothers in Syria. He expressed the hope that all Syrians will come together to reach a political solution that brings the bloodshed in Syria to end an end.
Benabdallah said that his party stood ready to help address the issue of detainees in Syria and to defend them in regional and international forums as well as to hold joint workshops for this purpose. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
