President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, participated in a workshop organized by the Stabilization Support Unit on the difficulties facing the political process in Syria, opportunities to revitalize it, and solutions and alternatives in light of the deadlock in the political process.
The workshop, which was held in Istanbul on Sunday, brought together President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Badr Jamous, SOC’s Vice-President Abdulahad Astepho, members of the Syrian Negotiations Commission and SOC, researchers, representatives of research centers and journalists.
Participants reviewed the prospects for a political solution in the country, while Al-Meslet spoke about the importance of the Arab role in the revitalization of the political process and pushing it forward to achieve a political solution that meets the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity and democracy.
Al-Meslet stressed the importance of the work of research centers in supporting decision-makers of the institutions of the Syrian revolution by submitting research papers and participating in policy formulation for the future of the revolution.
The workshop was held under the title ‘evaluating political solution in Syria’. It tackled the latest developments in the political process, the performance of the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, and the obstacles to implementing UN resolutions on Syria, especially the Geneva Communiqué of 2012 and Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
