In the presence of President of the Syrian Coalition, Abdurrahman Mustafa, the local council in Afrin marked the first anniversary of the start of Operation Olive Branch which resulted in the liberation of the region from the PYD militia by the Free Syrian Army and the Turkish army.
President Mustafa also met with representatives of the local people and local councils as well as leadership of the three corps of the Syrian National Army. He stressed that the military operation was necessary to restore stability to Afrin and the entirety of Aleppo northern countryside and enable the displaced people to return to their homes. The main goal of the operation was to preserve Syria’s unity and free it of all terrorist organizations, he stressed.
“We are here now in Afrin, which returned to its rightful owners. We are meeting with the local people and heads of local councils as well as commanders of the Syrian National Army. We can clearly see the results and outcome of this operation,” President Mustafa added
Furthermore, President Mustafa said that the efforts of the Turkish army and its support for the Free Syrian Army in Operation Olive Branch were of great importance. He pointed out that this support was key to liberating civilians, ensuring their security, clearing the region of debris, and imposing security.
“The operation guaranteed the return of the displaced persons and enabling them to manage their affairs by themselves through the local councils they elected.”
President Mustafa pointed out that the liberation of Afrin enabled the local councils to provide basic services, especially in the areas of education and health. He underscored the need for more coordination among the institutions of the revolution. “Hand in hand, we will rebuild Syria a free country, unified and free of terrorism and tyranny.” (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
