President of the Syrian Coalition Abdurrahman Mustafa on Monday welcomed the start of the implementation of the Idlib agreement, including the establishment of a demilitarized zone through the withdrawal of heavy weapons by all sides. He described the move as an important step that will effect positively on the humanitarian situation in Idlib.
Mustafa said that the implementation of the agreement by the FSA groups will spare the region the dangers of a possible aggression and rein in bombardment by the Assad regime and its allied terrorist Iranian groups. He stressed that the implementation of the agreement means that the Assad regime’s attempts to take control of Idlib have failed as it will not be allowed to enter the demilitarized zone. He cited Turkey’s strengthening of its observation posts and the full preparedness of the FSA groups.
Mustafa pointed out that the area covered by the agreement will receive better services in the coming days and will see decreased armed presence. He said: “We are working with the Turkish side to work out a plan to strengthen civil administration and restart the work of service institutions which the Assad regime destroyed over the past several years.
Moreover, Mustafa pointed out that the implementation of the agreement will strengthen the position of the revolution. He stressed the need to open the way for the revitalization of the political process and the implementation of international resolutions on Syria, most importantly the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council resolution 2254.
Mustafa noted that the Assad regime and its allies are obstructing the political process and preventing the formation of the constitutional committee.
