The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held a regular meeting on Wednesday and Thursday to listen to briefings by Presidents of the SOC Salem Al-Meslet and President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Badr Jamous about the visit to New York and Washington.
Al-Meslet spoke from Washington via video link about the meetings held by the SOC’s delegation with US officials in Washington. He said the discussions focused on the importance of revitalizing the political process to implement UN resolution 2254 and reach a political solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy.
Jamous also spoke about the results of the meetings held by the joint delegation on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He gave an overview on the positions of the states they met with regard to the political process, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to the political process, which is based on UN resolution 2254.
Secretary-General Haytham Rahmeh submitted reports on the progress of the work of the General Secretariat and the SOC’s action plan. He also reviewed the reports prepared by the departments of the General Secretariat as he requested that all committees and departments prepare their reports for presentation during the upcoming General Assembly meeting.
The political committee also reviewed the reports of the Office of Refugee Affairs and the National Commission for the Affairs of Detainees and the Forcibly Disappeared, and the work of the technical team of the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee and the Military Bloc on the field situation in the liberated areas.
